Gilmore - Chapter 7

I agree with Gilmore that many authors have found hundreds of ways of tricking themselves into revision.  I believe it is often difficult to revise creative writing because of the personal nature.  But there are simple tools to use that are similar to revising essay writing that will also improve creative writing.  It may sound simple, but merely revisiting basic ideas such as audience and chronology of events and tense are a good start for improving the accessibility of your creative writing.

Again, making the writing specific by cutting out unnecessary prompts in dialogue and extra unimportant words is a simple revision that makes the piece so much better.  I think that character revision is an ongoing process that has to be started before anything is written and reevaluated every time they perform action or have something done to them; reflect upon how this impacts the characters development and if it changes where you want the character to be heading.
